About JAWS.

In 2001, I started building a website that would showcase my hobbies and interests. It took a year to build, off and on, and also due to the fact I wasn't sure whether it would be that good or not. However, on March 30th 2002, the site went live to the world and was called Simon's Website. Only meant to be a temporary name until I thought of something better. I still haven't thought of anything better - yet! But that's besides the point - since the site opened it has changed radically as I have improved on my skills.

Two months later in May 2002, a club at the church I go to, was looking into updating it's website and having loads of pictures of their ongoing events on it. I took this on, and maintained it until 2005. This gave me the idea of forming my own business of building websites for people. I called it SJH Webs.

SJH are the initials of my name, and Webs was supposed to mean like a group of cobwebs interconnecting. In a way, it's partly true because all my websites to date have some sort of connection with each other.

However, I wasn't happy with the name, I didn't think it was original enough. It stuck though until 2007. By now, I had been commissioned and paid to build a website for the church I attend, expanded my own website by buying domain names and webspace, building websites for podcasts that I was involved with, and also having completed a diploma course in Website Designing, I am now beginning to get recognised as a professional web designer. So then, it came to me that I needed a better name if I was taking my web design business seriously.

After a long time of trying to think of something quirky, catchy and different I came up with JAWS which stands for Just Another Web Site. Good, eh? Ha Ha.

Even though I have been a web designer for five years, there are still things that I haven't learnt. I've just learnt the basics of PHP but don't know how to do Flash yet. However, I am just about to start University and one of the subjects on the course is Web Design so I may pick up a few new things there. But as time goes along and new things come out, I plan to continue and improve my skills and become a confident and professional website designer.

Here's to the future!
